Solar system costs
Solar system costs depend on the equipment and work required at your property. This guide helps you compare quotations for on-grid, hybrid and larger systems with the same scope in view.
Equipment price versus installed-system price
An inverter or battery listing is one component of a project. A complete proposal should identify panels, inverter, any battery, mounting structure, protection equipment, wiring, labour and the work needed to connect the system. Ask whether delivery, taxes and any approval-related costs are included or excluded.
What changes the quotation?
- Capacity: panel power in kW, inverter rating and the expected load profile.
- Storage: battery energy in kWh, usable capacity, power limits and compatible equipment.
- Site: roof structure, shading, cable routes, access and electrical work.
- Scope: monitoring, installation responsibilities, warranty terms and aftercare.
Compare three system routes
On-grid without batteries
Focus on daytime demand and assess surplus generation separately. Confirm export eligibility and assumptions before assigning it a financial value. Read the on-grid guide.
Hybrid with optional storage
Compare the inverter and battery costs alongside the specific loads they can support. A panel capacity alone does not tell you the hours of backup. Read the hybrid guide.
Commercial and larger systems
Shift patterns, site access and electrical requirements can materially change the scope. Start with commercial planning and request an itemised assessment.
Use estimates carefully
The solar savings calculator shows its modelling assumptions so you can compare scenarios. Its output is an initial estimate, not a fixed offer. The equipment catalogue displays source dates; confirm current prices and stock with our team. No universal package price can account for every property.
A checklist for comparing proposals
- Match panel, inverter and battery specifications across quotes.
- Check installed capacity and usable storage rather than model names alone.
- Ask for explicit inclusions, exclusions and payment stages.
- Review written warranties, maintenance responsibilities and the proposed schedule.
- Check generation and savings assumptions against your actual use.
