Start with your electricity use

Monthly consumption is a useful starting point, but daytime and evening use affect how much solar energy you can use directly. A household that runs air conditioning during the day has different needs from one with most of its demand after sunset.
Choose on-grid or hybrid
An on-grid system focuses on daytime generation without battery storage. A hybrid system can add storage for later use. Battery capacity should follow the loads and duration you want to support; it is not the same measurement as panel capacity.
